Meekness and You.
September 11, 2024I woke up Sunday morning on September 1st and got myself cleaned up and started looking on Google for a local church in the Brookville area of Pennsylvania. There were many options but I decided to check out the Brookville Evangelical Methodist Church since it have a morning service followed by fellowship and bible study and an a second service before noon.
I was excited to find a church so welcoming, several members of the church welcomed me with smiles, handshakes and introductions. It truly was a great start to a Sunday service.
Pastor Loren McQueen introduced himself and shook my hand before heading to the front of the church to start the first morning service. After a wonderful praise and worship he opened with Matthew 5:5 and lead me into a better understanding of what it is to walk with meekness.
Matthew 5:5 Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
I have been working through the week reading more on what The Word says about meekness. I found more inspiring text while reading a little further into Matthew.
Matthew 11:29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
This says a lot to me, “Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me,” I believe this is telling us to carry His teachings with us and and learn from those teaching as we move forward. “For I am gentle and lowly in heart” This is telling us to be meek and walk with gentleness and kindness, to teach with patience, and have sympathy for others. This also reflects the opposite, Don’t be harsh and unkind, don’t be impatient and full of pride. “and you will find rest for your soul.” This is telling me that if if abide to the above that salvation is in my path.
So reading further in whole, if we are meek and walk in His teachings that we will have salvation. What a strong verse this is, but there is more information if we dig more into the Word.
Titus 3:2 to speak evil of no one, to be peaceable, gentle, showing all humility to all men.
Titus 3:2 has more information to teach us how to be meek. This verse teaches this easy and clear. “Speak no evil” Easy enough right? “Be peaceful” again easy to understand, don’t fight with others “show humility to all men” This saying to show meekness to others, be compassionate, caring, patient with others.
1 Peter 3:15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear;
This is another great verse in 1 Peter, I read it saying to me that people will question my faith and the hope I have and when I answer them and tell them the reasons I am to do it with meekness. Explain this with patience and be gentle when explaining and have respect for the person you are speaking to about faith and hope in salvation.
James 1:21 Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.
I like how it is explained in the book of James. “lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness” I can’t make this any easier to understand, get rid of the filthiness and wickedness in your life. “and receive with meekness the implanted word” This is easy enough to understand, We are to receive the Word with patience and compassion. “Which is able to save your soul” So, If we receive the Word with compassion and patience, if we do this without wickedness and filthiness then our soul can be saved.
What a powerful verse don’t you agree. There is so much we can learn about meekness if we are patient.
I really feel that I have learned a little more about how to be meek and what it means to walk with meekness. I want to start being more meek in the days ahead and I pray you do as well. We can have salvation and inherit the Earth, but only if we can learn what it is to be meek.
Please tell me more about your journey and what you’ve learned about meekness during your studies.
Closing Prayer
Father I come to you and ask you to help me be more of a servant for you, I ask you teach me more on how to be meek and walk as your Son did. Teach me how to spread your Word to others with kindness. I ask Father that you help me rid myself of evil pleasures and wickedness. I ask you to guide me into further and deeper into your word. Father I ask these things in Jesus name, Amen.
